About Dr. Juliana Soares Linn

Dr. Juliana Soares Linn was born in Alegre and spent much of her childhood in Vitoria in the state of Espirito Santo, Brazil. Eventually she moved to Rio de Janeiro, where she attended high school and through her volunteering work with underserved populations decided on a career in Medicine. She attended the Federal University of Parana, where she earned her MD in 2004. She underwent residency training in an Internal Medicine program at the Federal University of Espirito Santo, where she graduated in 2007. During her residency, Dr. Soares Linn had the opportunity to spend three months in Mozambique as part of a “South to South” collaboration exchange program in Infectious Diseases. Her experience in Mozambique was particularly powerful because it allowed Dr. Soares Linn to see how her medical training could be applied to assist those in the greatest needs on a global level.

About Dr. Juliana Soares Linn
Upon completing her residency, Dr. Soares Linn was hired by ICAP at Columbia University in the City of New York to return to Mozambique where she was part of the first efforts in that country to scale up lifesaving antiretroviral treatment. In 2011 Dr. Soares Linn left Mozambique to New York City where she received her Masters in Public Health, Epidemiology from Columbia University and later a Masters of Science in Infectious Diseases from the University of London/London School of Hygiene of Tropical Medicine. Dr. Soares Linn is currently the Deputy Director, Implementation Unit at ICAP at Columbia University where she works tirelessly to strengthen health systems and improve the lives of communities around the world. Despite a busy schedule, Dr. Soares Linn has a passion for medical education and lifelong medical learning. While living in New York and preparing for the USMLE® herself, Dr. Soares Linn came across a number of students who had given up their dream of becoming a doctor in the United States. Most students, especially those trained outside the US, struggled to find the right resources and keep motivation. These personal stories of self-doubt, perseverance and success under very difficult circumstances motivated Dr. Soares Linn to create the Medical Boards Study Academy® (MBSA®).
